Fashion Finds from Top TV Shows

Posted by Chelsea Lankford on May 26th 2023

Television has been a driving force behind new fashion trends for decades, but we’ve seen a handful of new shows over the last couple of years that made an immediate impact on the style scene. More on those later, but on classic shows like Gossip Girl and Sex in the City, the personal style felt like one of the main characters rather than an afterthought. With new seasons of fashion-forward shows on the horizon, don’t be afraid to use their wardrobe department as inspiration for your warm-weather looks; going lookalike shopping at your local Style Encore for pieces you’ve seen on TV is always an exciting challenge!

The buzz around The White Lotus last summer set a bunch of us searching for lavish silks and embellishments, while shows like Emily in Paris had us all on the hunt for bold prints and striking silhouettes. No matter what color or fabric you’re featuring in your outfit, the most important item to take your look from simply average to luxuriously sophisticated is fit. From pantsuits a la Paris to strappy evening dresses best suited for Italian sunsets, the characters’ hems are perfectly cut, shoulders are perfectly lined up and waistbands are perfectly snug. Going to a tailor can be intimidating, but many local dry cleaners have a seamstress on staff who can make small adjustments—like adjusting a hem—just by leaving them a note with your request at drop-off.

And Just Like That’s new season premieres next month on HBO, and its characters are always good for thinking outside the box when it comes to eye-catching statements, especially for outerwear and accessories. While Carrie Bradshaw’s looks are over the top and far beyond what I’d wear on a typical day in the office or out on the town, I always take note of the way patterns and prints come into play on her New York City streets. Put to use what you learned in primary school art class and pair colors opposite each other on the color wheel for bold, high-contrast looks. The color-coordinated racks of curated clothing at Style Encore provide the perfect place to scope out elegant motifs, quirky statement handbags, or timeless accessories that would fit right into the dramatic stylings of Manhattan’s finest, on or off the small screen.
