Transition to Fall

As the weather cools down, many of us feel the urge to pack away our summer wardrobes in favor of cozier fall attire. But before you stash away those warm-weather pieces, consider how you could make them work for fall! With a few styling tweaks, your favorite summer items can transition seamlessly into the next season, taking your wardrobe farther than you knew it could go. Thoughtful layering, seasonal color palettes and the right accessories are your keys to success.
Layering lightweight pieces with a cardigan might be something you’re already doing on summer evenings, but when creating a transitional look, aim to be more intentional. A flowy summer dress provides a great base for a chunky knit cardigan and ankle boots to add a little warmth. Topping a warm-weather blouse with a leather jacket or bomber creates a casual, fall-ready look. For bottoms, pair skirts or shorts with tights to keep the look seasonal while staying warm, but pack up the denim cut-offs. For an intentional look, this works best with black or brown shorts with elevated tailoring that are the same color as the tights you’re pairing them with.
Of course, color plays a key role in transitioning your wardrobe. Opt for richer tones like burgundy, mustard, or forest green to anchor your summer pieces in a fall palette. By incorporating these colors into your layers and accessories, you can extend the life of your summer wardrobe well into the cooler months. Don’t be afraid to pair burgundy with bright cherry red or camel brown with golden yellow. Monochromatic dressing is always a safe bet and helps incorporate bright summer shades with deeper autumnal tones.
Finally, don't forget to shop small! Style Encore is a great place to shop for accessories to add to your outfits. Scarves, hats, handbags and belts are petite pieces that can make a big impact while adding autumnal flair to any look. Whether it’s shades of red and amber or luxurious textures, incorporating elements from one season along with some from the next will make your wardrobe transition as seamless as possible.
